Coffee vs Matcha

Team Coffee or Team Matcha?

I’m both but more in love with matcha. Both are great energy boosters, enhance mental focus, but some info so you can decide.

Coffee > 95g caffeine, stronger effect, short burst of energy, low in antioxidants. Coffee naturally contains more caffeine than matcha, which for some people isn't necessarily a bad thing. The daily limit of caffeine recommended for adults is 400mg so roughly 4 cups of caffeinated coffee or 6 cups of matcha a day. Since this may be too much for some people, you have to see how your body & mind reacts to caffeine.

You may want to cut back if you have side effects like:

  • Headache

  • Insomnia

  • Nervousness

  • Irritability

  • Frequent urination or inability to control urination

  • Fast heartbeat

  • Muscle tremors

Matcha > 70mg caffeine, calmer effect, 4-6 hours of energy, 160 times more antioxidants. Matcha contains less caffeine than coffee and due to the amino acid L-Theanine which can increase alpha wave activity in the brain, it may induce relaxation and decrease stress levels, balancing out the effects usually coming from consuming caffeinated beverages.

Coffee can have a stronger effect while matcha has a calmer effect, not just because of being lower in caffeine but also due to the nutrients present such as L-Theanine

Matcha provides a slower releasing and prolonged energy burst vs coffee plus it contains x160 more antioxidants making it a healthier choice overall. But keep in mind, I'm not saying coffee is unhealthy. I do drink coffee as well.

  • Both are great choices, but see how you react when consuming caffeinated coffee and/or matcha and it affects your well being on a day to day basis

  • If you enjoy coffee too much there's no need to switch to matcha, unless you noticed some side effects from consuming coffee

  • Drinking caffeinated beverages won't reduce your mortality rate alone since there are many factors that take place such as smoking, alcohol consumption, stress levels, genetics, nutrition, exercise, sleep etc.

  • My personal recommendation, like your other Nutrition and Supplements, invest in a high quality organic coffee and matcha.
